Okay,
I am usually pretty good at these things but Excel is really pulling my hair out.
I am aware that External Workbook Links require the Workbook to be open, and that is fine, however, the Workbook I am linking to changes from time to time.
Workbook 01.12.09.xls
Workbook 01.15.09.xls
And so on. So I want to be able to design a formula that uses A singular External Link to the Workbook, but upon opening of my Xls File, it will first (in VBA) verify the Workbook the link points to exists (opening it and updating the links) or will bring up an Open File Dialog to find the New XLS file, and then reset the "sources" for all the links updating them.
I had hoped to Insert|Name|Define, but for some stupid reason, when I define a Name that points to the OPEN workbook, but every time I define a formula that uses the name like "=[MyNameLink]Sheet1!A2" it brings up a dialog for me to pick the file. I understand opening the file once for the name, but that should be it, not every time i type a formula that uses the name.
So yea,
I need to find a way that I can Programmatically
- Use a Cell Value to Verify the Link File
- Open the File If exists
- User Browse for New File If it Doesn't
- Update Link Sources.
Now this should be relatively simple enough to do, I just can't seem to find anything that is remotely helpful on the subject yet.
*sigh*
