    grouping dates in pivot table

I am having issues grouping dates by month in the attached example. The date field is formatted as text. When I attempt to group in the pivot table, I am not given the grouping dialog box. I can't figure out why.

    I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks

are you saying your date values in the source sheet are text ?

if so you will need to convert them first to numerics ... 1 way:

add value 1 to a blank cell
    copy said cell
    highlight "dates"
edit -> paste special -> operation: Multiply -> OK

Refresh the PT & hopefully you should find you can group on the dates.

I'm sorry. I mis-spoke. They are formatted as dates. I did try your solution but it didn't work. Still formatted as dates, still won't group. Check out the attachment and see what I mean.

hmmm. Well I don't know why it isn't working for me. Not in 2003 or 2007. So I'll close this thread since it should work the way I thought it should.
    Thanks for the help.
