Excel 2007 Hangs on opening Spreadsheet

I am using Microsoft Excel 2007, whenever i open a spreadsheet the program hangs for a minute or two before opening the spreadsheet. If i minimize the spreadsheet after i open it, it will open fine without any hangups. This happens for any file that i try to open and is really annoying.

Can someone tell me why this is occuring and how to correct it.

are you opening the file from your local drive or a network drive?

what is the size of the file that you are trying to open?
