Formatting Changes & Cell Entries are 'bleeding through' to Other Sheets?

    Hello,
    This is my first post.

I am using Excel X for Mac, Release 1.
I am running Mac OS 10.4.11 on a Apple G5 Dual core desktop machine. I’ve been using Excel for at least 10 years without issue and only in the past two days have I encountered erratic behavior.

I have a Workbook open with numerous sheets. A couple of days ago I was befuddled because the sheets were suddenly difficult to read. I discovered that any new changes I made to formatting on one sheet in a Workbook (ex. Border formatting) would apply to OTHER Sheets I wasn't working in. Of course, it made my other Sheets difficult to read because all of a sudden the data was broken into arbitrary sections, boarders, etc.
I noticed the same thing was occurring with data: new data I entered in one Sheet only, would ALSO 'bleed through' and be entered in the same cell on all the other Sheets in that Workbook: in some cases the text would appear to be overlapping the older previously entered text for that cell.

Needless to say, this has made my Workbook totally unusable.
To the best of my knowledge I have not changed any Excel settings, preferences, or anything else with the program. Otherwise my Mac is healthy and all my other applications perform just fine. I am left scratching my head. .
I desperately need to resolve this ASAP.

Can anyone please offer advice or insights?

Thanks a bunch and happy new year to all!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Could it be that the sheets had all been selected? (Ctrl & Select sheet tab). This would have put them in the 'Group' mode, and you'd see the word [Group] after the workbook name in the area above the column letters.

I use a Mac as well as a PC and I've noticed that it's not always immediately obvious that sheets are grouped, the sheet tabs are sightly lighter in colour than non grouped sheets, but you can hardly tell.

    Hello Richard,
Yes, you are correct! Thank you for the welcome and replying to my inquiry.

Following the name of the Workbook in the title bar is the word [GROUP] in brackets. I must have somehow accidentally grouped them together.

Can you please advise how to UNGROUP them?

Right now I am on my way out, but I will return later this evening.

    Thanks again for your help.

Just select (click the tab) of any ungrouped sheet while holding down no other keys. If all the sheets are grouped, click any tab.

....OK I got it. I hit (control & select sheet tab) and a pop up menu with 'ungroup' option appears.

Thanks a bunch for the assistance!

    Hi,

To ungroup just select one of the grouped sheets whilst holding the CTRL key down and pick the 'ungroup sheets' option, or select any sheet tab which isn't included in the group.
