    Relatively slow worksheet

There is one worksheet in my workbook that is relatively slower than the other worksheets in my workbook. The sheet contains no macros, and minimal data compared to the other work sheets. I've tried deleting all columns and rows and formatting form the workbook, such that I esentially have a blank worksheet; while this speeds up the worksheet a little, it is STILL slower than other worksheets that contain data validation, conditional formatting, dropdown lists, the whole nine yards!

When I say that the worksheet is slow, I mean that interaction with the worksheet is genreally laggy; clunky scrolling, validaiton lists appearing a second after you select the cell etc...

I could just make a new worksheet and duplicate the format but I would really like to know what could be causing the problem! Its just so odd!

    Thanks,

    Jerry

I'm not an expert on the internal workings of EXCEL,
but I have come across a number of quirky "features" which suggest that EXCEL makes several assumptions to help speed up it's re-calculations.
I believe that one of these may be that cells that have not been "touched" do not need to be looked at.
Unfortunately I get the impression that once a cell has had ANYTHING in it at ANYTIME it is marked as having been "touched" and so requires checking at each re-calculation.
This "touched" status does not seem to be altered by clearing, deleting, or anything I have found (short of starting again).
I am guessing about the internal workings of EXCEL, but be assured (and perhaps re-assured) that you are not the only person to have found seemingly inexplicable behaviour of this ilk.

    Mark.
