    Drop down delivers different data

    Space is at a premium, and I only want one character returned from a drop down menu (data>validation>list). However, I want to show the user the full details .i.e.


    Menu shows 'Overtime', returns 'O'

    Menu shows 'Normal Time', returns 'NT'

    Menu shows 'Public Holiday', returns 'PH'

    Is there a way to do this?

    You could use VBA (overkill, IMO), or a VLOOKUP in an adjacent column.
