    Conditinal Formatting Question

Hi guys could someone let me know if this is possible please...

Cells A3-30 refer to a list of names
Cells E3-30 refer to a list of jobs requiring a name

If I type a name in E3 for example is it possible to change the colour of the name in column A if it also appears in any one of the cells A3-A30?

thanks guys fo any help offered

    Paul

    Hi Paul.

If I understand you correctly, the following will work.

    Select A3:A30

GO to Format > Conditional Formatting > Formula is > =MATCH(A1,$E$3,0)>0
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

Hi Dave many thanks for the reply - your on the right track but on trying it the problem I'm getting is that the wrong mane is being highlighted.

for example in column A we have

    A3 - Mr A Test
    A4 - Mr H Simpson
    A5 - Mr B Man
    A6 - Mr A Other

If I then put Mr B Man into cell E3 - Cell A7 changes colour not cell A5

    does that makes sense?

    Many thank

I presume that Dave meant to use A3 in the formula not A1....but assuming you want to highlight any value in A3:A30 that appears anywhere in E3:E30 try

    =MATCH(A3,E$3:E$30,0)
