Counting cells by colours rather than by content

    Hi Guys

Got a strange one, probably not possible though.

Is it possible to count cells by a certain colour? rather than count it by content?

=counta(a1:a9) is obviously the one that will count all cells that aren't blank, but can i do it by colour?

Any help or suggestions much appreciated

    Regards

Hi, it is possible but by manually. Only two ways came to my mind.

First method is to use Find feature. Hit Ctrl+F to bring the window up.
Click Options >>, Then click Format, then go to Fill tab and select the matching interior colour you want to find.

The color will appear at the Preview. Then select the range you want to find and click Find All. Read at the status bar for the number of matching cells.

Second method is to use macro, sub procedure, to find matching cells in a range. An example of a simple macro searching for black cells:

You will have to find out the color number. And it is more complicated in version 2007.
