    Pivot Table question.

Im currently working on a spreadsheet. I have created a drop down box, with different Status. I now need to get this infomation into a pivot chart, how do I do this?

I have dragged the status box into the centre of a layout and all i get is a count. What I need is a count for the various different Status.

Drag the "Status" box to the row or column area and any other item to the data area. If the other item is numeric you will need to right click on it -> field settings change it to "count"

drag "Car make" to "Drop Row Fields Here"
now drag "Car make" (from same place) to "Drop Data Items Here"

If you want more specific help trying describing what you want in more detail

Kurt, Pivot tables are quite complex. I've found the most effective way for people to understand them is by having a go, try dragging and dropping the various column headings to the different areas of the pivot table. It's very intuitive when you get the hang of it, but for understanding the concept, having a go is probably the best way IMHO.

Agree with CC that playing with them is the best way.

In the workbook I attached previously, click any cell within the pivot table.

From the Data menu at the top, choose Pivot Table & Pivot Chart Report.

Choose Layout from the bottom left of the box that opens.

This will provide a visual of what fields go where.
