Excel enter text on its own

When i clicked in a cell, i was not allowed to enter any text and a few seconds later random statements began to fill the cell. Anyone has seen this before? Do I have a virus. (Excel 2003)

    A few things are possible:
    1. a virus
    2. the spreadsheet is protected and the cell is "hidden", which would not allow you to see any formulas that are entered.
    3. the spreadsheet is protected and a macro is operating that controls that cell's value.
    4. data validation exists in that cell and it is controlled by a macro.

Is the text truly random gibberish or is it words or acronyms that could potentially make sense or are at least consistent depending on what values are entered elsewhere?

Try turning off your microphone. Office 2003 offers speech recognition. Do a search in the help file for speech recognition.

Much of the same info is here: Using speech recognition for the first time in Office
