using conditional formatting but reference is different cell

Is it possible to use conditional formatting but your reference cell is different?
    Example:

    A1 - is the reference
B1,C1,G1,H1 - is where you would apply the conditional formatting

If A1 is "x" then cells B1,C1,G1,H1 will be fill up with color red otherwise it is yellow.

    Thanks,
    Oliver
