Text higher than the row height, don't want it trimmed

    Hi there,

I would like to have 3 small rows and have the text to fill those 3 rows. I can't merge them because I would like to have 3 different colors in the background.

Check at the attached file, see how the text is trimmed in the row 4 ?

I have added over the image (in red) what I want the text to look like. Is there a way to tell the row 4 to expand the text to the upper rows, like my red "Tuesday" example?

Thanks!! (By the way, I have Excel 2007)

Please post a workbook, not a picture.

    Tricky

As far as I am aware you can't get text to spread vertically into neighbouring unused cells (unless someone out there knows different).

However you might be able to get the visual effect you are after by using the following trick.

Place a text box over the cells in question (from your picture, Cells C2,C3 and C4 for example)
Then rather than typing text into the box, type =C4 into the insert function (fx) box.
The text box will then reproduce what is in cell C4.

Set the font colour in C4 to the background colour, set the text box "no fill" and "no line"

Note that you cant edit the cells while the box is over them, so set them up first, (or temporarily move the box).

    Hope this helps.

Mark, that's a very neat trick, thank you.
