Query using SubTotals > Count function

I have a list of entries in a database, with a date at the beginning of each.

Like so.

I know how to use the count function so it will say 4 above 10/09/2008 etc.

But how do i get these count totals on another sheet, within the same spreadsheet?

Precede the range in your formula with the Sheetname that the database is on, followed by an exclamation mark (!)

e.g. =Countif(Sheet1!A1:A1000,">10/09/2008")

Ok that counts for dates later than a certain date.

Is there no way to just show all counts automatically, like can be done using the count function found in data>subtotals?

Not sure I understand... Maybe you want to try a Pivot Table?

That will list your unique dates and can give you a count of each.
