    Import external data problem

I am using Excel 2003 and have 2 documents I have linked via Import External Data.

The first document has data in it and the second document is pulling the data into it to to do queries and compare this data to other data.

When I try to save the first sheet and the second sheet is open it says that it is locked becuse the second sheet is connected to it. I tried creating a macro to remove the connection after the data is pulled but it still will not save.

I need to be able to save the first document while the second is still open because other users will be using the second sheet to compare data.

Is there a way I can make the second sheet connect , get the data, and disconnect? Or can I modify the macro to do this for me?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks
    Troy

I don't think you should have this problem if you are using New Database Query under the Data>Import External Data options, or are you using the Import Data option? Might be worth switching if so.

I tried that by naming the sections on the particular tabs on document 1 they the report 2 can not find the named tabs although I found them in the wizzard

Is there a wy I can force Excell to retreve the data and then kill the co=nnection so the first document can be unlocked while using Import data function?
