    XL changing General to Text format

    Ok, here's a weird one:

    i have formulas in a bunch of cells that are formatted as General format... However, when I double-click on these cells and then press Enter, it automatically converts the cell to Text format... (instead of keeping it as General)...

    Anyone got any ideas...?

    ...also, if a spreadsheet has gotten corrupted for some reason, is there any sort of "auto repair function" i could utilize?

    P.S. am using Excel 2000

    ...and welcome to the forum!!

    Not sure what's causing this particular probelem - or ever even heard of it. You might want to post a cut down version of the spreadsheet so someone can take a look at it and perhaps come up with something.

    thx for ur help Dominic - i tried to resave as html etc but without any effect... i think i'll just try and rebuild the file from scratch, but am still curious why the issue is occurring

    ...have attached a sample file of the problem if u wanted to have a geeze
