    Question Excel Interview Question

    Hi,

    I was in a job interview and was given this question to answer:

    What are two functions in Excel that allow the total of one cell to be dependent on the value of another cell?

    That's all that was asked for the question. I'm just a novice, so I didn't know the answer, nor did they give me the answer.

    Can someone give me the answer to it?

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Answer

    There are many Functions that would correctly answer the question. The first two that came to me are: SUM & COUNT

    Examples:

    Sum =SUM(A2:A9)
    COUNT =COUNT(B2:B9)

    If you are looking for a job where you will use excel, I highly recommend learning as much as you can, by reading forums like this, picking up a 'good' excel book(read customer reviews...I've been burned by not doing that before buying), but mostly by digging into excel. Try EVERYTHING! Look at every drop-down menu and see what everything does. If you click on the Function button (or Insert>Function) you can scroll down and learn about all of the available functions and what they do.

    Use this as a learning experience and grow from it!

    Hope this helps!

    Anything that references that cell in a formula is influenced by the value of the cell: sum, count, counta, average, len, mid, right, left, ... hundreds of possibilties.

    It's kind of a dumb question.

    Hmmm, sounds a bit suspect for an interview (too general and not structured to use as a competency tool!), so that said i suggest ricker65 that you read this
