Creating formulae to work out US withholding tax?

    Hi folks!
I was hoping I could get a little help on creating a formula for 08 federal withholding. I've got the easy stuff like the state, med, soc sec, and local tax but since the FWH has variables to it I need some help.

Hi Lee, and welcome to the forum.

Please remember that this is an international forum and we're not all familiar with the nuances of US federal IRS / tax structures. Neither are we psychic, and able to work out what 'FWH' may mean and what your variables may be.

You'll need as a minimum to give us more details and better still an attachment of your workbook.

Please also take a moment to review the forum rules about thread titles.

    Regards

    Hi,

What exactly are you expecting? As I said before most of us are not familiar with the US IRS and tax structures, so you'll really need to describe in words what it is you want.

There are 22 pages of tables starting on page 38 of IRS Publication 15 (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf) that show withholding amounts based on payroll period, gross income, marital status, and number of withholding allowances. That would be a lot to encapsulate in one formula ...
