Search, retrieve & input

I have a file called "Account Nbrs". In column A is the description and in Column B is the account nbr associated with it. I want to be able to open another file, type a description in say column A and in column B put in a formula that will goto the "Account Nbrs" file, find the matching description and input the matching account nbr. Is this possible?

Have a look at the VLOOKUP function. The help file is pretty good, and there are heaps of examples on the forum.
