Frozen panes do not save

I have some large worksheets and the ability to freeze panes is important. However, the frozen panes do not "save". Whenever I re-open the file the panes are once again "unfrozen" and I must freeze them all over again. Very inconvenient. What am I missing?

I have never seen this. Typically if you save the workbook after freezing the panes (hopefully you're doing this) it will reopen the same way. What version of Excel are you using? Does it always happen this way or only with some specific workbooks?
