Converting the Format of the Date

    Hi,

I have a bunch of dates in the dd/mm/yyyy format, and I want to convert those into a number value. So I select the cells -> right click -> format cells -> change to number. When I do that, only some of the selected cells change to the number format, while the other stays in the date format. The others think they have changed into a number format because when I try to change the format again by right-clicking and format cells, they already have the "number" format selected.

    Please help, thank you.

Try selecting the column, then from the menu, Data > Text to Columns > Next > Next > Finish.

    Thanks Jason, it works!

So what does this "Text to Column" do anyways?

It converts all of the data to a particular type of data (in this case, General format). Just changing the cell format does not always also change the content of the actual data.
