    Diagrams with geometry in excel

    Hi,

I came across a site selling a interesting excel spreadsheet. The sheet has been setup so that the diagram displaying the geometry of a staircase is updated as the cell values change. I am in the civil/structural engineering field and the ability to produce spreadsheets like this would be of great use.

I was just wondering how this is done in excel as I havn't seen anything like it before. Is it simply a serries of graphs or does excel have tools for such a task.

    Thanks
    Elbarto

Your link offers a $12.99 solution that appears to meet your requirements; is price an obstacle?

No price is beside the point. I dont need the solution to that particular problem, I am interested in how to make such a figure in excel. whether it be for different thickness in pavment types, spacing between staggered holes for joining I beam sections, etc. A visual representation of data would make for much easier interpretation in some cases, and I think it makes a very professional spreadsheet.

Looks like a xy scatter chart probably being driven by multiple formula results.

Have a look at my recent post here for something along the same lines.

And over at Ozgrid this example for adding inspection information to weld diagram.
