How can I get Workbook 1 pull data from Workbook 2 (on a network)?

I am trying to find a way to track user progress by having a workbook that pulls data from other workbooks on users machines. This way when the Main workbook is opened, the data inside is pulled at that time to fill the appropriate cells.

Is there a non-vba way to do this?

    Using the
     =[otherspreadsheetsName.xls]Sheet1!$A$1
code requires me to select the sheet I want, but doesn't dynamically update those cells when that master workbook is opened.

I looked at get.cell and the tutorials on it left me with more questions than I came in there with O.o

I looked around and still am looking for the answer... I hope someone knows where it is kept

If this brings questions, ask, I will answer to the best of my ability.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tom

P.s. I really like the forums. There is alot of useful information here
