Excel and converting 'dd hrs:mins' into hours only

    Hi all,

    Can anyone help me?

I have put a small formula together, deducting one date from another to give the total number of days, hours, and mins between those dates. I have formatted the answer cell to give me the result in days, hours, mins (dd hrs:mins).

What I need to do now is convert that 'answer' into hours only.

My plan is multiply those hours by a cost value.

Can anyone advise how I go about this?

    Thanks,

    Emma

    Hi,

Format the cell as "General" or "Number", and multply the result by 24. eg

    =(B1-A1)*24
    Rule 1: Never merge cells
    Rule 2: See rule 1

OMG - It's so simple. I was really complicating matters in my head.

Thank you, you're officially both stars.

Multiplying your result by 24 and formatting as general should give you number of hours between the 2 date/time cells.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
