    excel time

Is there away to get excel to know if the time is am or pm and not have it automatically assume it is am without doing the 24 hour times or typing am or pm. I had heard somewhere that if some place is open less then 12 hours there is a way to do it but I just dont know how. Thanks in advanced or any help.
New to excel as you may be able to tell

Are you talking about what's in a cell? Assuming that's the case why not simply format it with "h:mm AM/PM"

When someone types in a time in a cell say 6:45 in A1 it automatically assumes that it is 6:45am but I want it to assume 6:45pm seeing as how where I work we are not open that early.
