a basic question about excel logic

    Hi Everybody,

I have a question about the SUM function .

    Column # 3 is a function : Column #1 - Column #2
The result is always a positive number.

However, if I total column #3 with +SUM(C5:C255) the result is a negative number.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Many thanks,
    Paul

It would be easier to work out if you can attach a copy of your workbook so we can see what is happening.

If you attach a sample of your workbook it will be easier to find a solution. Remember to remove/replace sensitive data before uploading the file. Look here if you need help with attachments:

Like tuph said, you may need to provide us with an image. BUT, have you right clicked on the cell that produces the answer, gone to Format Cells -> the Number tab and clicked on "Number"? Perhaps this will work. This basically formats the type of figure you are after. Try it and see.
If this doesn't work, please provide an image of your spreadsheet.
