    Lat & Long conversions

    Hi

I am new to excel so please bare with me.

I am trying to covert Degrees, minutes seconds 32°21'59"S to degrees, decimal. I understand how to convert 32:21:59 to degrees decimals but can't get it in this format to start with. I'm sure it's straight forward??

    Thanks

    Thanks Roy.
I have read the page a few times but it asumes that the data is already in 32:21:59(time) formate not 32°21'59"S(degree) formate. I have tried changing to custom formate but it doesn't seem to work. I can manualy change all to time formate but this would take forever.
What I am eventually trying to do is convert degree formate (32°21'59"S) to degree decimal (32.366388).
    Thanks.

Got no idea what to do with that. Have limited experience with excel and am not up to working with code. If you can point me inthe right direction will have a go.Thanks.

    • Do Alt+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor.
    • From the menu bar in the window that opens, do Insert > module.
    • Paste the code in the new window that opens.
    • Close everything to get back to Excel.
Then put a lat/lon string in, say, A1, then enter this formula in some other cell:

    =DMS2Frac(A1)
