automatically deducting from a cell on another sheet

    hi guys

on sheet1 i have a stock list of about 50 handles and i just want that to keep a running total

on sheet2 i have all the handles listed as well but i use this sheet to asign them to specific jobs
when i enter the qty asigned to a job i need excel to automatically go to sheet 1 and deduct the qty just entered so we can keep this as a running total and easy to browse is this possible gents?

i will protect the cells on sheet 1 so it cannot be changed

I Should Also Add That It Will Be Accessed At Anytime
And On Sheet 2 The Jobs Assigned To Will Be Added To All The Time
    So I Cant Just Do Formula Like Cell A1 In Sheet1 = Sheet2-column B

It would help to have an example spreadsheet. It is not clear if you are overwriting data on sheet 2 or adding a new row or a new column or doing something else. Zip and upload an example workbook and we'll see what we can do. Thanks
