decoding formula issue

How does this formula work. I don't understand the output in the field.

=IF(SUM(D6: D22,D25: D32),SUM(D6: D22,D25: D32),"")

Can somebody break down the formula in laymens terms please.

If the sum has a non-zero result, show the sum, else show nothing (a null string).
