Excel file opens in read-only mode

I have a file on our network server that I password protected for modifications. Never a problem. Today I try to open the file and it says that the file is in use by me and that I can only open it in read-only mode.

How do I reset this so that I can again modify it???

    Hi Raymond,

    1. Try rebooting your PC. This doesn't always work, but sometimes the local PC doesn't release the file properly.

    2. Have someone who can access the file server go into the management console (MMC) and release your connection to that file. It should be under the 'Computer Management -> System Tools -> Shared Folders -> Open Files' tree. They just have to find the file linked to your user name and disconnect the connection.
