    Formula Diffrences

    i was jus twondering what is the diffrences between these 2 above formulas as with the $$

    =COUNTIF($A$1:$A$20,">20")
    =COUNTIF(A1:A20,">20")

    Why are there $$ in some formulas and what does this char does?

    viruzman,

    The $ anchors (makes absolute) the Column and/or Row references of the formula. This means that if you copy a formula down or across a range, the Column and/or Row references marked with a $ won't change. This is important when using a VLOOKUP formula for a number of rows for example.
