    Filtering Multiple Columns

I am trying to filter three columns of data to a given range without having to using auto filter on each column. I would like to have a Macro or Control Button or something easier than picking each set of data each time I want to filter.

    Attached is a sample file.

I am not well versed in Excel and this is my first post so please bear with me in this process.

You could have a control button or macro if you wanted, however, the easiest thing to do is set up the filters how you like them, and go to View > Custom Views, Add and set up a new view. Next time you want to recreate the filters go to View > Custom, select the view and click Show.

It's easier for you to play with this feature and decide if it's for you than it is for me to explain it in detail so just have a play...

    sucess with attachment?

I was trying to attach the file before it was recognised by the software.

Anyhow, (If it worked this time) the file should explain more clearly what I am trying to do.

    Thanks.

    I thought I did.

The file shows up as a zipped file on my harddrive. I typed the message and hit the paperclip(attach). In the window I browse, find the file and upload. It then shows up in the Manage Attachments window as a Zip file. I hit attach and all that showed up in the reply was the Attach code in brackets.

the zipped file is listed in the Management Attachments window. I click on Browse, find the zipped file from my computer and hit the upload button. It then shows up as a zip file in the Management window. I come to the REPLY TO thread window and click the 'paperclip' icon and this is what I get.

As I said I am not a computer wiz by any streach, however, I have never run into this type of problem before.

    Dave,

I got it to work but I am not sure how.

Anyway thank you for your patience with a newbi.

Did the file come thru OK? At this point I am as curious about the zip file as I am about the result of my question.

    Sorry for the trouble.

I am still at a loss to resolve this problem. What I do now is use Auto Filter and go thru each of the three columns seperatly, but their must be a quicker way.

I will try again to attach the file. In case it makes a diference, I am using Excel 2000 and windows XL.

    OK.

Over a week since I first posted and still no response. If I don't get some kind of a response soon I will look for the answer somewhere else.

    Thank you for your time.

    Dave,

Thanks for the attempt but it’s not even close to what I am looking for. I will try to explain better.

I build and fit golf clubs. Part of the process involves matching a golfers ‘swing profile’ to shaft profiles. To that end I have a list of golf shafts (a Data List), listed by Mfg. etc. columns A, B, & C are general information about each shaft. Columns D, E and F are shaft frequencies measured at the Butt of the shaft (D) the middle of the shaft (E) and the tip of the shaft (F) and are the columns I am most concerned with.

I go through a fitting process to find the best frequencies for a golfer at each point (Butt, Mid and Tip). This gives me a “Target” CPM for each point these values are contained in D10: F10 I then allow some wiggle room, plus or minus up to 5 CPM for each of the three points (Butt, Mid, and Tip CPM) as noted in the Range D11:F12.

At this point I currently use, custom filter, for each column (D, E and F) by opening up each column, type in the custom range for each column an apply the filter. Depending on the results , sometimes there may be more shafts than I want, I may want to tighten the parameters of the filter and then I do the whole process over again to find the best match. I then copy and paste the filter results to a separate location.

It works but I keep thinking there must be a quicker, easier way.

I hope this helps make it a little clearer what I am trying to accomplish. Sorry to get so wordy.

This is the directions from the workbook
    Goal
    Filter columns D,E & F (Row 14 on)
Based on value range in D11 thru F12
Post first six results in A2 thru F7
    Restore list as is
Be able to edit or add to list as necessary
I am done with this post
