auto fill when using $ in formulas

i created a database and made one small mistake doing it. The database is infinite amount of rows down and my formula needs to be corrected as such. In the current cells: (C1:C1000) i have the formulas referencing cells $B1, but i need it to reference $B$1. In C2 I need it to reference $B$2, C3 $B$3 and so on. If I autofill, it obviously just keeps the following cells at $B$1 and i can't keep the dollar bill sign. I know this may be confusing, but i feel like it has a simple answer and is driivng me crazy. Thanks for the help

Not really, the formula is doing exactly what you ask of it by not incrementing the rows / columnsas you copy it down - that's exactly what the little dollar sign does (or making the formula absolute, to give it it's technical term, as opposed to ordinary relative formulae).

What you could do is download and install my add-in, via the link below, set the formulae up as normal relative ones, then highlight the range of formulae, go to Ultimate > Formulae > Relative / Absolute Formulae, and select Make Formulae Absolute from the drop down box.

That would achieve what you want to do, but it's not quite the simple answer you were after.

I'm not following. If you remove the $ from $B1 in cell C1 and drag it down, you'll get B2 in C2, B3 in C3, etc. What exactly is the formula you'd be dragging down Column C?
