    Execute a formula Indirectly

    Hi,

I wanna execute a formula indirectly. That is if you do not say =sum(1,2,3). But you have the word "sum" written in a cell, lets say A1.
Then I try to say: =A1(1,2,3), which should be equivalent to =sum(1,2,3).

Sounds easy, but does not work, yet.

Hope for your suggestions, I really need to work with that.

    Cheers. Tom

So basically, you want to input an Excel Function (like SUM, AVERAGE, etc) in A1 and then reference that elsewhere to perform the calculations?
So if you put in B1 (using pseudocode)

and A1 contains SUM, it'll give you 7, if you change A1 to AVERAGE, it'll give you 3.5, etc. Yes?

Just trying to wrap my mind around this.

Hi, sorry for the laste reply.

You grasped the logic of my problem in its entire complexity.

Do you see any simple way to solve it.
One restriction is that I do not want to apply VBA.

    Thanks a lot. Tom
