Selecting only cells that require data entry

Okay…I’ve got a worksheet with a handful of cells wherein data entry is required (or even allowed). I want the user to be shepherded from cell to cell, automatically skipping over cells that are protected or where no entry is needed. So as the user inputs data and hits enter, the cursor jumps to the next “open” cell.

Assume that the entry cells are non-contiguous.

Can this be done in Excel?

Probably but it would require a macro. It is true however that if they use TAB instead of ENTER, it will go to the next unprotected cell automatically. I also color code manual input cells to make it clearer to the observer where data is supposed to be entered.

If only a handful of cells try unlocking the cells by

Selecting the cells > format cells > protection tab > unlock.
Protect the sheet and hit the tab key
