    Database

    Hello ,

Is it possible to take the database from a website and would it be illegal . The racing post ( www.racingpost.co.uk ) has 6 years worth of data which is available to the public so I wouldn't think it was illegal and I was wondering how you go about taking it and putting the information on Microsoft Excel so I can calculate many different pars and averages over 6 years , I heard you need a spider program or a curl but im not sure .

    Any help would be great

    Thanks

    Hi,

As long as the data is being used for non-commercial use I can't see there'd be a problem copying it off.

The easiest way to get the information would be to select the table you want, copy it, then do Paste Special > Text. Just had a go and it seems to work fine.

Thanks for the reply Samuel , I think there will be a problem because the site publish its own newspaper everyday using its stats . Can you tell me what table you actually copied ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I copied out one of the racing tables. The only problem was that I had to enter the headers myself, everything else seemed fine.

Check Section 2 in the 'Terms and Conditions' section (https://reg.racingpost.co.uk/cde/ter...ns.sd#section1) regarding use of data.
