    Color cell by value

    Good morning,

I looked back 13 pages in the search and could not find what I need. Your help is appreciated.

I am trying to set the cell to color depending on a number entered. There are four possibilities.

Edited to add: I tried a different search and found a link VBA NOOB had given before.
I can get the cell to take 3 cond. formats but not four. I have it set to 1=red, 2=blue, 3=yellow....but can't get it take take 4=green. It only allows three conditional format settings.

    EX:

If cell is blank - "no fill"
If the number "1" is entered, cell to turn red
If the number "2" is entered, cell to turn blue
If the number "3" is entered, cell to turn yellow
If the number "4" is entered, cell to turn green

Seems pretty easy, but I can't get it to work...UGH.

Thanks for any suggestions in advence.

If you need to use more than 3 "conditional formats" you'll need to do some VBA coding. Try looking specifically (using the advanced Search options) in the Excel Programming folder of this forum. Otherwise, what I've done in the past is either split the conditional formatting up into 2 cells (duplicate data but up to 6 colors) or decide on the least important condition and drop it. :-/
