I would like to apply a conditional format highlighting across each row wherever the maximum value in D1 occurs.

The best I can do is highlight only the cells in D based on =max($D$1:$D$45).

    Any suggestions?

    Grant.

Highlight your entire range starting in row 1 and go to Format|Conditional Formatting...

Select Formula Is from 1st drop down and enter formula: =$D1=Max($D$1:$D$45)

Click format and choose your colour from the Pattern tab.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

    NBVC,

Thank you for the suggestion but it doesn't seem to work.

Do you think "=$D1" is the problem?

    =$D1=max($D$1:$D$45).

    NBVC,

Seems I was selecting "Cell value is" rather than "Formula is". We get there in the end. Thank you.
