Is there a shortcut to "merge cells", as i am doing a list up which requires to do this constantly.

Why not create your own Custom toolbar and you could drag the "Merge Cells" icon (and others) you use a lot, but are not always visable on the Standard Toolbars. Just a mouse click away then.
