Lookup a text string within a table

Sorry for the title, impossible to come up with anything succint!

I have a list of full names with references against each. I have another list of surnames and I need to vlookup my surname list to find the references, but because they are full names i.e. first name, surname, I need to use something like search, but I can't work out how to do that.

Anyone any ideas?
