    I checked but nothing is protected. I even opened up a new excel document and i'm still unable to change the orientation or margins. hmm. Could it be because I don't have a printer hooked up?

    That's very possible, Do you have any print drivers installed at all?If you do, select a printer as the default printer, when you select print, see if you are able to select a printer
