    Excel file size reduced?

    Greetings,

This is very interesting. I recently ran a macro which replaced all of the null cells in my spreadsheet with 0's. After this process, the size of my excel file decreased by more than 1MB. The filesize went from 5.2MB to 4.1MB. Does anyone have a possible explanation for this? I am afraid I did something wrong and possibly deleted data. However, I looked at a backup of the orginal and it seems both sheets have the same number of rows and seemingly (not looking through all 10000 rows of course) same data. Does null data take up more room than populated cells? Any explanations?

    Thanks,

    -Josh

Was original file saved with a different/older version of Excel? Maybe the newer version is more economical when saving files?

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

    Good evening xIcarus

My guess would be that it overwrote an "invisible" format and reset it back to the default. You will often find that too many rows having formatting needlessly applied to them can cause serious file bloat.
