Keyboard shortcut - F4

Hi,

I'm trying to help my friend with an Excel issue. He is using the F4 key (or ctrl-Y) to "repeat" the last action on a spreadsheet, but for some reason, it doesn't always work. I've also noticed this on spreadsheets of my own.

For instance, if you run a command (even cutting and pasting) you can press F4 to repeat that same action on another cell. Sometimes it works, but other times it does not.

Has anyone seen this happen before, and if so, do you know what the problem is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can tell if you happen to double-click the cell instaed of selecting it, F4 won't work ( don't know if this helps)

I think this happens regardless of whether or not the cell is double-clicked.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

This is a super old thread but I didnt see a clear answer to it anywhere except for people talking about laptops so I thought I would post how I solved my problem. This has happened to me a few times when I bump one of the shortcuts which change the language of the keyboard. I changed mine back to US layout and that solved my problem
Steps are file - options language- Office Authoring Languages and Proofing - set to US and see if it makes a difference
