Color formatting a worksheet

Hi all, I'm sure this may be bone-head simple but here goes...
I've created a worksheet in Excel 07 with alternating colors in the rows, 2 shades of light gray for example.

My question is... How can I lock those colors in place so they are not disturbed by cutting, copying, and pasting data in and out of the sheet?
I also have a lot of conditional formatting that changes cell colors which will still need to work once these row colors are permanent.
Maybe it's some sort of template that I should be trying to create??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
