    date problem: cell formating

I have been working on a spreadsheet for a couple of months now and in
the past two day I have begun having a problem when entering the date
    in to a cell.

    Everything was working fine

I would enter the date as (lets say) 8/22 and it would format it for
    me to 8/22/07

Now however it is doing something like this (I enter) 8/22 and it
    formats it as 8/1/22

I am sure that it is a preferance somewhere that I am missing and It
    is driving me crazy.

The cell formating has not changed and all of the old dates
that I have entered still look fine.

    any help would be appreciated

    Thank you,
    Philip

Regional settings should dictate what happens here. If your regional settings are set to US (i.e. default date of mm/dd/yy) then entering 8/22 should give you 22nd August of the current year. If you have default settings set to UK or somewhere else that defaults to dd/mm/yy then 8/22 will be interpreted as 1st August 2022

Are you in the US? Check regional settings in Control Panel and set to US or similar
