Pivot table issue

Does anyone know if there is a fix for a pivot table error that is really annoying. The problem is when I change a column name, the Pivot table automatically saves that previous name that I took out. So if the column name was "XY," but I meant to only put "XX," once I correct it, both "XY" and "XX" will show up as a selection even though "XY" no longer exists. Have anyone else seen this issue? I have Excel 2003, so I was wondering if there is a patch to correct this or not.
