Red face something Wrong with my formula...Help

    Hi

    Wonder if anyone can help

Trying to populate same cell info from two matching or not matching columns in different part of the sheet?

    Ex:-

    Column A Column B Column C

OTE BT BT (smaller in both column should appear in this cell)
    BT ADSL
    VSLN TTW
    NTT NCT

    Hope this would explain?

Does it make any different if column A word populated by Formula?

    Thanks

So you want column C to be populated with the string (from Col A or Col B) with least amount of characters?
Where there is a will there are many ways.

not sure what you mean by this part:

    even if not same row.......
Are you only needing 1 formula in 1 cell , say C2, that extracts the string with the least amount of chars from the entire columns A and B?

Looks like you want items common to both lists,

    in C1, try:

    =IF(ISNUMBER(MATCH($A1,$B$1:$B$100,0)),$A1,"") copied down

    adjust ranges to suit.

Note: This post has been edited. Previous formula was incorrect.
