    Updating Links

    Hi!

I posted this problem in the programming section, but now that I think about it, there's not a lot of programming involved in the dilemma...

I created a linked workbook with many external references to cells in another workbook. However, after changes have been made to the source workbook and I've saved and closed it - when I open the linking workbook and choose to update, the cells do not change.

Here is an example of a reference in the linked workbook:

    ='C:\Documents and Settings\dollard\Desktop\[Updated_Metrics.xls]Stoplight_Chart'!D14

I'm not sure why the cells don't automatically update, can anyone help?

    Thanks!

    Dan

Its because you have changed the source workbook. Heres what you need to do.

    1. make sure the file path is still correct.

    2. if you renamed any pages on the source, make sure that is reflected on the destination(linking) book

    3. If you changed the layout of the source workbook, it also has to be reflected in the destination book. ex., if one of your links referrences cell A1 in the source workbook, you need to make sure that what was originally in cell A1 in the source did not get moved.

    hope that helps.
