    Fixed cell reference

    Dear Gurus,

I am running Excel 2007 (though not sure it will matter).

In cell A1, I want it to display the value of cell C1. All very well and easy. Except, when I Insert a cell in C1, so C1 shifts down to C2, A1 then points to C2 (the old value) and not the blank value in the new C1. I need A1 to be fixed to the value of C1 no matter how the cells are shifted, inserted etc as all it does is reference cell C2 instead.

I have tried using the Offset function, and also using the formula for A1 to be '=$C$1' to fix it but is still has the same problem as the formula for A1 just changes itself to '=$C$2'

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

    Hi Mark

Use the indirect function .... =INDIRECT("C1")

    That should help.

    Peter.
