Exclamation Prevent user from inserting rows/cells

    Hi All,

Thanks to you guys and girls, I have managed to create a darn great spreadsheet (if I did have alot of help thank you oh thank you all!!)

BUT!! The user is able to insert rows and cells when there is protection in place!! I need them to be able to enter directly into a cell but not insert any rows, cells or columns...

    Any ideas???

    Thanks in advance
    Cass

Have you checked (having first unprotected the sheet) under Tools, Protection, Protect Sheet that the insert rows and insert columns check boxes are not ticked?

Yes I certainly had checked that the protection is correct and that the ticks are removed from the "allowed"....

    The problem is mostly this...

There are certain cells that are locked and others that are editabile. They are on the same rows. This has made it impossible for me to figure out a way that they can ENTER data into the cell, but protect the integrity of the worksheets. No matter what I have done so far, they are still able to insert rows and cells. This has buggered up the calculations across the board so far...how can I stop them?

    Hi Cass,
Now I'm confused. I use Excel 2003 and have just created a template with 3 cells on a row unlocked. I then protect the worksheet. I can edit only those 3 cells but cannot insert columns or rows. Perhaps someone else can help because I can't understand what is happening on your file. May be you can zip it and attach it so we can take a look?

    Hi Stu,

You are thoroughly correct!! (As you undoubtedly know by now)...I was using an add in which allowed me to protect and unprotect enmasse.

Once I went through and used my Excel 2003 protect option rather than the add-in, the protection worked as intended, so is now fixed..

Thanks so much for your feedback!!!
