How do I add headings for each column

I have set up a spreadsheet, but find I need headings for each column (not the A B C ...) I know the alphabet named columns must be visible to create formulas, but how do I insert a heading for each column - that will stay in view even when I scroll down the sheet. Also, a heading that is NOT included when I need to use that column in calculations.

    Thanks

The only way is to insert a row above your data and enter the column titles in row 1.

you can freeze this row by clicking cell A2 and go to Window|Freeze Panes.

You're formula's depending on exactly what the formulas are, can still include the whole column and should ignore the title row....otherwise, you can just redefine your ranges to start at row 2
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Hi Sandra -- To add to NBVC's good suggestions:

    * You might insert 2 rows - One row for a main title (with larger size font) and a 2nd one for columnar headings

    * For columnar headings, you might highlight the cells in that row and select from the menu bar: FORMAT >>> CELLS >>> ALIGNMENT TAB >>> check the Word Wrap (this allows headings with 2 or more words to show well within the limited space). I also like setting the Vertical setting to TOP

    * OPTIONAL: On the column heading line, highlight all column cells you might want to filter on ... you can select from the menu bar: DATA >>> FILTER >>> AUTOFILTER (check). This will allow you to find items or perform visual analysis on the spreadsheet results easily.

    * I like making heading text BOLD and even filling in the columnar headings with color (Paint icon on top right side usually in Yellow)

    * You can practice with headings first on a blank worksheet ... In fact make a backup copy of your real spreadsheet in case mistakes are made
